Charlotte Robinson

I am currently in my 3rd year studying a degree in Fashion & Textiles at Colchester School of Art and Design. My strengths, interest are producing Digital Prints, garment construction and pattern cutting, Photoshop and Illustrator.

I have gained more knowledge within the fashion and textiles industry through work experience such as London Fashion Week, Couture Tailoring at St. Martin's School of Fashion and my most recent work placement at Paul Dennicci Childrenwears Company; where I am a designer's assistance, designing for Disney.

My ambitions for the future: To have a career in the Fashion Industry as a designer or a buyer.

This blog will show my work/influences and progress throughout the final year of my degree.
GFW PHOTOSHOOT : The final 4 chosen, I am so happy that I got chosen for my dress to be send to GFW photoshoot which is a massive opportunity for the industry to see our work and to get noticed.

Adding the fringing and beading to the neck of my dress, was harder than I thought, I had to use a zip foot so I was able to get close enough to the beading detail. With so many layers this also made it bulky around the neck line, once I added the facing and lining this helped the neck line stay in position.

Received my fringing today, I am so happy that it has come in time and it is actually want it wanted and asked for. I was worried that I wouldn’t come in time or be different to want I chose as it was being made in china but it is perfect.

Dress 2 : Finished the construction of dress 2, still need to added fringing, lining and zip. I had a problem with my structured sleeves as they weren’t holding as I wanted them too, so I have stitched in shoulder pads, this has solved my problem and looks great.

Today I made my pattern and toile my Cape, I was surprised how quick it was to do my cape, and I thought I would take a lot longer. I really like the way my toile is draping but I am unsure if I am going to pin tuck so it forms structure and shape like my designs and collection.

DAVID LAM Photographer

Today we had a meeting with a professional photographer, David Lam and a graphic designer. This was a really good insight into the industry and what we are going to be working with. They both were enthusiastic about my work, liked my chose of hair style and make-up, which I will work with make-up artist from Mac to achieve this hard edge and powerful look. They gave me a lot of ideas to think about before the photoshoot on 15th-16th April. I am pleased and relived after today as it was really encouraging to speak to people who have worked within the industry for a long time, who know what they are taking about and was so positive and enthusiastic about my work.
